WA: Attacked nurse released from intensive care
The Perth psychiatric nurse left comatose after being bashed by a patient has been
released from intensive care, nearly six weeks after the attack.
DEBBIE FREEMAN was left with serious head injuries and had remained at Royal Perth
Hospital since the attack at the mental health unit of Swan Health Service on March the
6th.
A spokeswoman for the hospital says Ms FREEMAN left the intensive care unit late yesterday,
and has now been moved to a neurosurgical ward.
The spokeswoman says 43-year-old is in a serious but stable condition and her brain
injury is showing signs of some recovery.
A 23 year-old Bassendean man, DES ANZAC TARAU, has not yet been deemed fit enough to
plead to charges of grievous bodily harm, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Police will allege TARAU attacked Ms FREEMAN, slamming her head to the floor several
times and stomping on her.
