Vic: Govt signs Scoresby funding pact = 3

Meanwhile, Victorian Opposition leader Denis Napthine said the freeway should be funded 50-50.

But he dismissed Mr Bracks's commitment, saying the funding had not yet been budgeted.

"What we need from the premier is some concrete evidence that they're supporting the
project - and the concrete evidence is a term (sic) of real money, not just rhetoric,"

Dr Napthine told reporters.

He said the federal government had pledged $220 million and that the state government
should contribute an equal share.

Dr Napthine said it was important to get the project underway due to its importance
to Gippsland and Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

"It is a $1 billion project and it should be funded on a 50-50 basis, but let's get
the project underway - there's money on the table, let's start work," he said.
