Boy will not face charges in postman's shooting

PITTSBURGH - A 10-year-old boy will not face charges in the fatalshooting of a letter carrier last summer, county prosecutors said.

The bullet allegedly fired from a bedroom window by the boy onJune 23 traveled through a group of trees and struck 45-year-oldClayton Smith of Colliers, W.Va., in the back as he took a break fromhis route in Crafton, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Investigators ruled the shooting was unintentional because the boycould not see Smith, but that his acts should be considered recklessor grossly negligent.

What happens to the boy is a civil matter that will be handledoutside the criminal courts, said Allegheny County District AttorneyStephen …
